Buzios Events, Things to Do and Festivals 2014 / 2015

(Buzios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Several events really do stand out on the Buzios calendar and many visitors to the resort often choose to make sure that their holiday coincides with a festival or traditional Brazilian celebrations of some kind.

The Mardi Gras / carnival (carnaval) season each February / March is a lively time throughout Brazil and Buzios is no exception to this, with the most popular things to do including samba and salsa dancing, live music, processions and beach parties. There are so many events that take place during the Buzios carnival season that booklets with dates and times are always published, often being available at hotels.

Lovers of the great outdoors may like to check out the parachuting championship and its impressive skydiving demonstrations. In late May / early June, the Corpus Christi celebrations come to town and see the Praia de Manguinhos beachfront decorated with elaborate carpets of salt.

Worth looking out for is the annual Buzios Jazz and Blues Festival, which is staged each year in late July at various venues and clubs, such as the Chez Michou and the Pátio Havana. The event lasts for four days in total and many of its jazz concerts are completely free to attend, making it all the more popular.

At the end of October, the yearly Buzios Food Festival draws some 100,000 visitors, with most restaurants participating in local foodie events, particularly those located on streets such as the Rua das Pedras, the Rua Orla Bardot and the Rua Turibio de Farias, and throughout the Porto da Barra area. Soon after, November 12th is another date to remember, since this day is the town's anniversary of its emancipation, and sees much partying and related events.

In late November, it is time for the popular Buzios Cine Festival (Cinema Festival), with crowds coming to enjoy its numerous screening of unreleased movies. Many of the films are shown at the Gran Cine Bardot, or to large groups outdoors on public plazas such as both the Praca Santos Dumont and the Praca Sao José.
